Borrowed!

A different perspective!

When I traveled to Australia, I stayed at locals' houses for a few nights here and there.

The Aussies loved hosting us, backpackers. (It was safe and governed by a reputable organization. Don't panic, mommas:).

I remember how grateful I was for my hosts, their home, food, and this opportunity every day.

Thinking about my Australian experience made me notice how

I took my 'parents' hospitality' for granted when I was growing up and wasn't as grateful for it!

In 2012 when I moved back to Charlotte. My friend let me borrow her car for a few days.

I remember how much I appreciated the privilege to use her car every time I drove it.

Yet, I don't remember EVER appreciating the privilege to drive my own vehicles.

A few years ago, I studied with a kabbalistic rabbi.

He had taught me that EVERYTHING I have is borrowed: my house, car, family, clothes, health, breath, EVERYTHING.

This perspective has changed me.

It helped me release entitlement and stress about losing (almost) anything.

When everything is borrowed, you can't lose anything. Nothing was yours, to begin with,

and you feel more thankful for the privilege to use the things you get to use.

One day I was told that NOTHING I had was mine, and on that day, I became WEALTHIER than ever before.

May you be blessed with an attitude of gratitude.
